These are words I never thought I would have the blessing of writing: Roe V. Wade has been aborted. The reality of those words has not fully set in. A massive injustice has been righted. It was only a matter of time before Roe saw it’s end, but I thought it was a victory my children would see — not me. It’s worth rejoicing, but we need to temper our celebrations. The conclusions of Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization have left us wanting.
We must understand what the decision yesterday means. The majority opinion, written by Justice Samuel Alito, affirmed what we all already knew: the US Constitution doesn’t guarantee a right to an abortion. It never did. It never has. Pray to God it never will.
The original opinion of Roe v. Wade was an obvious exercise in mental gymnastics to justify what was unjustifiable. Even Ruther Bader Ginsberg, the late Supreme Court Justice and icon of the Left, thought Roe v. Wade had gone too far. If you’ve never read Roe v. Wade, I challenge you to try. Reading the majority opinion of Roe v. Wade is an exercise in self-loathing. This said by a writer who use to review legal and financial documents for a living.
The only reason the Left has valued Roe v. Wade is because of what it did: it gave their sexual revolution feet. Legal abortion gave the deviants of the sexual revolution an easy out to the natural ‘byproduct’ of their debauchery — disregard they were killing babies so they could ‘get some.’ Men and women were no longer bound by marriage and family, now they could sacrifice their children at the altar of Moloch to free themselves of those ‘antiquated’ trappings. Roe V. Wade was their definitive stranglehold on the culture. Yesterday, we witnessed the iron shackles blasted away. The demons are now screaming in our streets for blood.
Yesterday’s victory should not be downplayed. It was the culmination of decades of work by many tireless pro-life advocates around the world. Yet, as we’ve already mentioned, yesterday’s Supreme Court decision did not end abortion in the United States.
It’s still not a states’ rights issue
Obviously, we are happy the court has ruled against Roe v. Wade and in favor of returning rights to the states. Yet, as we’ve argued before: abortion isn’t a solely a “states’ rights issue.”
Our push to nullify Roe v. Wade was meant to be a stop gap, not our ultimate goal. It was a tool which states could use to interpose themselves between their preborn citizens and an out of control federal government which was violating an apparent and inalienable right of its citizens: the right to life.
While it appears the SCOTUS has corrected the usurpation of state rights which was Roe V. Wade, it hasn’t corrected the gross violation of their most fundamental right to life. While some libertarians may be happy to argue abortion is a matter of personal choice, to be delegated to the lowest level of government or individual, we disagree. Abortion is premeditated murder with malice aforethought. Having the capacity to do something doesn’t mean you should be offered the choice. Just because a man may be capable of committing sexual assault, doesn’t mean we argue he should have a “right to choice.” Likewise, a woman may choose to murder a baby inside her, but she certain has no right to choose to assault the baby inside her. Abortion is a crime with a victim, a human person. Abortion is not a victimless crime.
No man or woman is island unto themselves
In light of the standards of American jurisprudence, Common Law, and Western views of the individual and their place in society — murder is not only a crime against the individual (though that should be enough), it is a crime against the People. Abortion deprives society of the contributions to society that person would have made in their lifetime. Whether those contributions were some cure for a disease, a great architectural wonder, or something as earthly as someone’s future spouse or best friend. To quote the 17th century preacher, John Donne,
No man is an island, Entire of itself, Every man is a piece of the continent, A part of the main. If a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less. As well as if a promontory were. As well as if a manor of thy friend’s Or of thine own were: Any man’s death diminishes me, Because I am involved in mankind, And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; It tolls for thee.
No Man Is An Island by John Donne
1624 Meditation 17, Devotions Upon Emergent Occasions
If the death of one man diminishes us, how much more are the 70 million since Roe, or the 1.2 billion worldwide since 1980? These are the costs of abortion we can’t measure.
As such, we are gravely disappointed the SCOTUS failed to recognize the inalienable rights of preborn children to not be murdered in their mother’s womb.
What’s next for Nullify Abortion?
As you may have surmised, the fight to end abortion is far from over. If you’ve followed us for any length of time you’ll know we’ve been trying to get the pro-life movement to focus on the states since our inception. Now, they have no choice. We must redouble our efforts. Every state is a battleground. Every state is one election away from either abortion being abolished or being enacted.
What we can expect over the coming months:
- Increased violence and vandalism against pro-life organizations, politicians, and activists
- A flurry of executive orders from the President and various governors
- Onslaught of misinformation about when life begins, pro-life messaging, and pro-life politicians
- Expect politicians feigning pro-life support in places this is politically expedient
- Watch out for hucksters attempting to ram-through legislation that looks and sounds pro-life but is actually a trojan horse — the only legislation needed to end abortion is really short
Legislation vigilance
Roe v. Wade is gone. The pro-life lobbyists and all of their deadbeat politicians who gave us garbage like Oklahoma 4327 have no excuse. Demand and expect nothing short of a full abolition of abortion.
Be weary of anything which uses the words “regulate” or “legislate.” Avoid any legislation which concedes power to a branch or department of government to then deal with abortion. There is no legitimate reason to not fully and completely abolish abortion immediately.
Legislation to abolish and effectively nullify abortion should be short and sweet. Any additional content should be regarded with great skepticism and caution regardless of who is claiming it is needed.
Simple Abortion Abolition Checklist
Only very simple legislation needs to be enacted and should include these few elements:
- Repeal or supersede all previous abortion laws
- Declare human life begins at conception
- Guarantee the preborn human being’s right to equal protection under the law, at conception
- A refusal of the state to recognize any past, present, or future federal laws or court rulings permitting or regulating abortion
No exceptions
Notice an absence of “exceptions for the life of the mother.” We’ve already addressed this in our article on Ectopic Pregnancies and Miscarriages, but to reiterate, the procedures needed to save the life of a mother in these situations are not abortions and therefore no exceptions need to be included. Any attempts to include any exceptions should be met with rigid resistance. Any legislation which includes exceptions for “rape and incest” is not pro-life and should be opposed as abortion legislation. The circumstances of your conception have no bearing on your value as a human being and do not determine whether you should be given due process of law.
Expect updated draft legislation on our website in the weeks to come.
Volunteer
Right now, you’re needed more than ever. Crisis pregnancy centers need able bodied individuals to volunteer to provide safety and security in addition to the regular need they always have. Find a local life affirming crisis pregnancy center and offer to volunteer. If you’d like to volunteer for security, let them know, but be open to help where they have the greatest need. This is a great opportunity, men, to stand up and be protectors.
Nullify Abortion needs your help to track legislation and laws in all 50 states. Please contact us with legislation of concern or which you feel should be supported in your state. This link will eventually be updated with a form specifically designed for reporting legislation.
If you are a writer and would like the opportunity to write, we welcome you to also contact us. We’d love to discuss some article ideas with you.
Most importantly, now is not the time to rest. Yes, we’ve been working very hard for a very long time to see this day, but with the invigoration of victory we must capitalize on it and apply it to productively pushing forward to our goal of a world without abortion.
